It’s not just the abysmal moral compass of the bible that strikes me, it’s also the vacuous nature of so much of it. For example the Proverbs, supposedly the distilled wisdom of Solomon is so full of trite. “A truthful witness gives honest testimony, but a false witness tells lies.” That is just not worth saying, but Proverbs says it twice (Prov 12:17 & 14:5). And as for, “No harm befalls the righteous, but the wicked have their fill of trouble” (Prov 12:21), well if only that were true.

Did you actually read the bible end to end?
by Ultimate Axiom inin my ten years as a witness i never read the whole bible end to end, what with four magazines a month, the book study, meetings and talk preparations, there just wasn’t the time.
i knew all the important references to ‘prove’ the various jw doctrines, and the cherry picked chapters that help foster the idea that it’s a good book, but that’s not reading it.
well after nearly forty years out, i decided i would do it.

I didn’t. In my ten years as a witness I never read the whole bible end to end, what with four magazines a month, the book study, meetings and talk preparations, there just wasn’t the time. I knew all the important references to ‘prove’ the various JW doctrines, and the cherry picked chapters that help foster the idea that it’s a good book, but that’s not reading it. Well after nearly forty years out, I decided I would do it. And having done it, I now conclude that it’s the most disgusting book I have ever read. You can see where Islamic State get their inspiration. Those ancient Israelites make IS looked positively moderate by comparison. And as for God, well words fail me to describe his disgusting behaviour. It makes me wonder how anyone who’s read it completely can still believe it to be the word of a loving God.

The downfall of the Governing Body
by john.prestor inin a book i read a while back by the sociologist randall collins he says truly powerful people don't get angry because they get what they want in other ways, and he shows a picture of two runners where the one who's losing looks at the girl that passes her rather than ahead at the finish line, guess she doesn't wanna win the race after all.
i want to apply these to the governing body and their actions, the pattern of their actions, in printing all the hateful rhetoric against people like us and why l'm pretty sure, pretty damn confident in fact, it's all downhill from here... thanks to them and them alone.. the moment you let somebody get in your head and let them stay there they beat you, they win, they establish power, we got in their heads, they know we present a threat to them, we won't shut up, we're more brazen than we used to be, we're in the news, we're on tv, we're online we're at conventions we're in the kingdom halls, hell we're just about everywhere.
yeah, we don't have this completely down yet, sometimes we come on too strong or do something stupid, and i'm pointing the finger at myself here too, but for the most part we know how to fight this battle: we drag them into the light when they wanna hide in the dark like jackals lurking in the woods sneaking up on weak and wounded deer.

johnamos – I was saying that two witnesses aren't needed if there's a confession, but I did add the proviso. 'unless of course he denies it later'. But you’re right I should have read the article first because that’s the situation they’re referring to. However, I would disagree with you on one point; I think they are downplaying the two witness rule in this situation.

johnamos - the two witness rule only applies if there is no confession, so in your first example it doesn't apply, unless of course he denies it later. I was somewhat amused by Gary Breaux's statement that they 'will never change their scriptural position' on the two witness rule. Oh no? They are capable of changing anything with 'new light', so if legislation forces their hand, they'll change it. And I can't understand why they don't allow evidence such as DNA to substitute as a second witness. But if governments do clamp down on them, they will welcome it as fulfilling the start of the Great Tribulation. Of course, what they'll do when that 'start' has been going on for a decade or more is anybody's guess. Probably just carry on with the heads up the arses.

Incognigo Montoya – a bit cruel sometimes, but still very funny. It reminds me of a time when I was on my motor bike, behind another one, and we were making our way through virtually stationary traffic in the one way system approaching Kings Cross Station in London. A couple just ahead, travelling in the same direction as us, just stepped off the kerb because of some obstruction without looking our way, causing both of us to brake. But instead of using his horn this guy gave his bike a huge turn on the accelerator, revving the engine with a sudden and deafening roar. I swear that guy leaped over three feet in the air, not to mention suffering a near heart attack. It was also a bit cruel, but I still could hardly stop laughing for the next mile or so. And you never know, maybe it taught them a valuable lesson.

Yep, just as there are plenty of dumb drivers playing with their phones as they drive, there are a lot of dumb pedestrians too. I've seen quite a few on my motor bike over the years. Am I being sexist, or are young women the worst offenders? I was on holiday on the Spanish Mediterranean a couple of years ago, and as I was coming in from a swim a young woman was wading through the waves in front of me with her phone in one hand and tapping the screen with the other, earpiece in her ear. I found myself wishing a big wave would come and wash over her. Some people can’t even go for a swim without their bloody phone. What’s the matter with them!

Jehovah's Witnesses including its leaders are in the business of lying
by Finkelstein in......endeavored to create an image of the organization which they are a identifying part of.. when you think about this religious organization and most its social ideological expressions are expressed through lying.
its doctrines are lies and not supported by the bible.. the leaders intentionally twisted doctrines to enhance the proliferation of the literature the wts published, which were a false theology through their interpretation of the bible.
the proclamation that jws are generally good wholesome living honest people.. there is constant endeavor by the people involved to hold up a pretentious veil of honest righteousness identifying the organization and its adherent followers.

Its doctrines are lies and not supported by the bible
Not all of them. Whereas the bible is not very consistent about anything, so it’s difficult to say what it supports, I would say that on balance the WT stand, for example, on the immortal soul, hellfire and the trinity and doctrines that are not lies.
As for their position on lying itself, don’t forget that the bible is not averse to lying. Abraham lied several times saying Sarah was his sister, Jacob lied to Isaac when he impersonated Esau, Joseph had his family lie to Pharaoh about their occupation, God blessed the Egyptian midwives when they lied about Hebrew women giving birth before they arrived… the list is endless - and all done with God’s blessing.
So by lying when it suits them, the WT is practicing a doctrine that is supported by the bible.

JWs celebrating New Year's?
by neat blue dog inthere are a few active jws i know (separate, in different areas) who basically celebrate new years, having a party to watch the ball drop, posting about it on social media, one even saying literally "happy new year" .
but most other jws seem to not want to point out the elephant in the room.
has anybody else seen this, or ever seen it turn judicial?

Or is it overlooked like birthdays are with some?
I really don't know what they've got against birthdays, after all, they're good for you. Statistics show that those who have the most live the longest.

Unbelievable
by ZindagiNaMilegiDobaara injust received this on a very excited note from someone who is pimi.this is how some people start their year 2019.. very happy to say that the year 2019 marks for us 100 years out of darkness from babylon the great!.
additionally, it marks the 105th year of christ's rule in heaven (1914 a.d.), 2,021st year since jesus was born on earth (2 b.c.e.
), 4,391st year since the deluge (2370 b.c.e.

2019 also marks 105 years since Armageddon was supposed to have come. 94 years since it was supposed to have come again. 44 years since it was supposed to have come yet again. Take your pick for all the other times it was supposed to have come.

Library now cleared out
by UnshackleTheChains inwell, it looks like the axe has finally fallen on our kh library.
during a deep clean of the local kh, a brother suddenly informed everyone 'whikst cleaning' that all the old books including bound volumes of the watchtower etc was to be chucked in the skip.. from what i heard, some were taken aback by this and quite annoyed that no announcement was made; that no one was given the choice of taking some of these books home to keep.
i mean the entire collection of studies in the scriptures and others that go back an entire century.

I honestly can't think of anything printed in such quantity which has proved to be less useful
True, but it’s useful now. Useful in debunking their bullshit, so the rubish bin is the last place it should go
